The National Science Foundation is a US Government agency that supports the research and education of STEM within North America. On their website you can check out all the news regarding fields in science, computer science, engineering, and mathematics.
They also have an REU database; REU stands for Research Experience for Undergrads. These REU sites can range from prestigious universities, famous labs, and other such institutes, and essentially act as research/internships. There are REUs for a wide variety of majors, including:
- Astronomical Sciences
- Chemistry
- Biological Sciences
- Computer Science
- Cyberinfastructure
- Physics
- Mathematics Research
- Engineering
- Social, Behavioral, and Economic Science
And many, many more. I recommend utilizing CTRL+F so that way you can find keywords that interest you (ex. UCLA, Machine Learning, Genetics, Astrophysics, etc.). Some of these REU are outside of California and pay for travel expenses, lodging, and sometimes even give you a stipend payment. (I'd say the average for some internships is about 5-6,000 USD for a single summer internship). Some don't and only offer the experience of interning at a prestigious institution. Do some research and make sure to apply to as many as you can!
